Dog Raincoat XS–4XL Size Guide

Dog Raincoat XS-4XL Size Guide for Playful Duck Dog Raincoat: compare fit, setup, care, and use-case checks before choosing this product for your pet routine.

The current Duck Hood dog raincoat chart runs from XS through 4XL. To choose well, measure your dog’s neck, chest, and back length while they stand naturally, then compare all three measurements with the chart. Suggested weight is a supporting reference, not a substitute for checking the widest part of the chest, the coat length, and the room needed for normal walking.

Measure before choosing a size

Use a soft tape, or a piece of string and a ruler, while your dog is calm and standing. Measure the neck where the raincoat will sit without pulling the tape tight. Measure chest girth around the widest part of the rib cage, usually just behind the front legs. Measure back length from the base of the neck to the base of the tail.

Write the measurements down and compare them with the same units shown below. A dog’s breed name, age, or a quick look at the coat cannot tell you how a particular chest and back will fit. If the dog is restless, take a short break and try again rather than tightening the tape to get a number.

Use the current XS–4XL chart

These are the measurements currently shown for this Duck Hood raincoat:

  • XS: neck 7.9 in / 20 cm; chest 12.2 in / 31 cm; back 7.9 in / 20 cm; suggested weight 1.1–2.2 lb / 0.5–1 kg.
  • S: neck 9.4 in / 24 cm; chest 14.2 in / 36 cm; back 10.2 in / 26 cm; suggested weight 3.3–4.4 lb / 1.5–2 kg.
  • M: neck 10.6 in / 27 cm; chest 17.3 in / 44 cm; back 12.6 in / 32 cm; suggested weight 5.5–7.7 lb / 2.5–3.5 kg.
  • L: neck 12.6 in / 32 cm; chest 18.9 in / 48 cm; back 14.2 in / 36 cm; suggested weight 8.8–9.9 lb / 4–4.5 kg.
  • XL: neck 13.8 in / 35 cm; chest 20.5 in / 52 cm; back 16.5 in / 42 cm; suggested weight 11–13.2 lb / 5–6 kg.
  • 2XL: neck 16.5 in / 42 cm; chest 24.4 in / 62 cm; back 18.9 in / 48 cm; suggested weight 15.4–22 lb / 7–10 kg.
  • 3XL: neck 18.9 in / 48 cm; chest 31.5 in / 80 cm; back 22.8 in / 58 cm; suggested weight 33.1–38.6 lb / 15–17.5 kg.
  • 4XL: neck 20.9 in / 53 cm; chest 36.2 in / 92 cm; back 25.6 in / 65 cm; suggested weight 44.1–55.1 lb / 20–25 kg.

The chart gives you a reference for the exact raincoat, not a promise that every dog in a weight range will have the same fit. When measurements point in different directions, pause and compare chest movement, back coverage, neck room, and the position of the closure before ordering.

Let chest and back shape guide the check

Chest girth often determines whether a coat feels restrictive or shifts while the dog walks. Back length determines how much of the coat reaches toward the tail without interfering with toileting. Neck girth helps you position the opening and hood without rubbing or pressing.

Long fur, a deep chest, a short back, and a broad shoulder can all change how a listed size behaves. Do not solve an uncertain measurement by pulling a strap tighter. If the chart does not give you a comfortable answer, contact the seller before ordering.

Measure the dog standing naturally, then confirm the chosen row still allows ordinary movement.

Check the fit after fastening

Fasten the adjustable closure gently and look at the coat from the front, side, and back. The fabric should not cut into the neck or chest, fold into a pressure point, or hang so loosely that it drags. Check that the leg openings allow ordinary steps and that the dog can lower the head.

Walk a few steps indoors, ask for a turn, and watch a sit and a normal toilet posture. Check the transparent-visor hood separately if you plan to use it. The coat should not cover the eyes, interfere with hearing, or make the dog change their movement.

Keep leash access separate from size

The raincoat includes a leash portal for collar or compatible harness access underneath. A correct chest measurement does not guarantee that every harness connector will line up with the opening. Thread your normal leash connection through the portal and confirm that the collar or harness stays secure before going outside.

The raincoat is an outer layer, not a restraint. Keep using the leash, harness, or other control setup that suits your dog and the route. If the opening pulls the coat or changes your control, stop and choose a different arrangement.

Recheck comfort before a longer walk

Introduce the coat indoors before the weather makes the decision urgent. Keep the first session short and reward calm behavior. Remove it if your dog freezes, hides, paws at the fabric, chews it, tucks the tail, pants heavily, vocalizes unusually, or seems unable to move normally.

If your dog shows persistent breathing, skin, pain, heat, or cold concerns, stop using the coat and contact a veterinarian. A size chart cannot assess an individual dog’s health or certify comfort in every weather condition.

Use a final measurement checklist

  1. Measure neck, chest, and back length while your dog stands naturally.
  2. Compare all three measurements with the current XS–4XL rows and use weight only as a secondary reference.
  3. Consider coat thickness, chest shape, leg openings, hood position, and the adjustable closure.
  4. Test standing, walking, turning, sitting, toileting, sight, hearing, and breathing indoors.
  5. Confirm that the leash portal works with the collar or compatible harness you will actually use.

Choose the size and the weather plan together

After measuring, read the hood and leash fit guide if head coverage or harness access is your main concern. For a complete preparation and drying routine, see the rainy-walk guide, then review the current Duck Hood raincoat and choose only when the chart and your dog’s response support the fit.

Fit checklist

Neck

Compare the result with the exact XS–4XL chart rather than a breed label.

Chest

Chest movement is central to clothing fit; do not tighten a closure to force a borderline row.

Back length

Check that coverage does not interfere with ordinary toileting or bunch around the tail.

Coat and openings

A listed size can behave differently on a deep chest, long back, or thick coat.

Movement

Remove the coat if normal movement or comfort changes.
