On warm afternoons, I lay the Cartoon Blue mat on a smooth patio and connect it to the garden hose. Starting with gentle pressure gives my small terrier time to investigate, then the spray around the rim turns it into a surprisingly fun splash game. To be honest, I bought this on a whim. My wife saw an ad and said our Lab, Duke, might like it for the summer. I figured it’d be another one of those gimmicky pet things that ends up in the garage after a week. Well, I was wrong. The setup took maybe five minutes—just hook it up to the garden hose and you’re good to go. The water sprays aren’t too strong, which I appreciate, and they arch just enough for Duke to chase through them like a nut. He usually hates getting sprayed, but for some reason, he’s obsessed with this thing. Runs around like he’s five years old again. What I really like is it doesn’t flood the yard like I feared. Water drains out well, and the mat’s surprisingly durable. We’ve used it four or five times now, and no tears yet (Duke’s nails aren’t exactly gentle). If your dog likes being outside and doesn’t mind a bit of splash, it’s well worth trying. I didn’t think I’d be writing a review for a “dog sprinkler,” but here we are. Happy dog, happy me.
